I lived in a rather old house that could really use some repair. I wanted to fix it up, install new plumbing, and redecorate the whole thing.
However, since I didn't have enough money to do everything at once, I decided to just start with the kitchen because that room needed the most work. But I had no idea what I wanted to do in that room, so first I had to get some kitchen decorating ideas.
I went to my local library to check out some interior design books and magazines. I figured that these would be great resources for kitchen decorating ideas, and I was right. Most of the books and magazines I found contained fabulous before-and-after pictures that showed me what I could expect when the project was done.
In addition, the articles featured step-by-step instructions for how to implement the various kitchen decorating ideas that the designers talked about. The instructions were so detailed that I thought I could even do some of those things myself.
After reviewing as many different kitchen decorating ideas as I could find, I had to decide which ones I was actually going to try out. This wasn't as simple as picking the enhancements that I liked best and then carrying out the plans. Instead, I had to stick with kitchen decorating ideas that fit a few important criteria. First of all, the proposed renovations had to be within my budget.
Remember, I had my whole house to think about here; I certainly didn't want to spend all my money on one room. Second, the kitchen decorating ideas had to be relatively easy to implement.
I didn't want to hire a contractor except as a last resort, so this was also an important consideration. And finally, anything I only wanted to do things that had a functional as well as aesthetic value. I wasn't just trying to make my place look pretty. I wanted it to be more efficient too.
Once I had these criteria figured out, I settled on two kitchen decorating ideas that fit the bill. After purchasing my materials and working on the room in my spare time and on weekends, I was able to successfully complete my project in less than a month.
It was amazing to see those kitchen decorating ideas come alive in my very own home! I simply couldn't believe it was the same room.
